Gene Olson has scheduled a class for Saturday, April 4th at the Clubhouse. The class is eight hours, and starts at 8:00 am, with an hour break for lunch, and we finish up around 4:30 pm. The class is free and you get to keep the books. Passing this class will earn you the Illinois DNR Boater Safety Education card. If you were born on or after January 1, 1998, you need this card to operate a boat in Illinois with more than 10 horsepower. If you were born prior to that date, you don’t need the card, unless you go to a place that requires it for everyone (Ontario, Canada for example, and I just learned from someone in my class last week that Alabama requires it for all). Nearly all states have reciprocity with Illinois for this card. Any age can take the class, but you have to be 11 years old to take the exam (60 multiple choice questions). If you’re under 12, DNR will mail you the card on or about your 12th birthday. You can take the class on-line if you prefer, but that will cost you $35, while in-person it is free (ie: good deal for people with lots of kids…) The class will be open to the public, so we will probably have people that are not club members in attendance. But that is kind of the point, so we can maybe attract those folks as new members.
If you’re interested, please let Gene know. He also have published a signup link. You can either email me, or use the signup link: https://forms.gle/ZB9TGR9V5yH8P8rv5 Let Gene know if you have any questions. Hopefully the harbor will be melted by then!
Sincerely,
Gene N. Olson
